2023 Azalea Festival at Nezu Shrine

Nezu Shrine’s 2023 Azalea Festival was amazing. Actually, I say that every every year. Why? It’s the colors. They are crazy.  Reds, whites, pinks, and purples are everywhere. They can be so vivid! Here are my photos of them.

When I went, some bushes hadn’t bloomed. That was okay. Nezu Shrine’s azalea hill was incredible. It was a sea of color. There were some green patches, but they didn’t detract from the natural beauty.

The weather was great.  I was happy to see a few clouds in the sky. The temperature was in that sweet spot, not too warm or too cool. It was the perfect day.

Even though it was a weekday, it was crowded! Many overseas visitors were there. I heard several languages, but Chinese and Korean were the most common. I also talked to Indians and people from Eastern Europe. It felt very cosmopolitan!

No matter where I looked, there were people. Hopefully, the photos convey this. Walking around the hill took ages. Sometimes, the paths were jammed, and I had to wait for a way to open. I was there to enjoy the flowers and take photos, so it wasn’t a problem.

The only downside on the day was some construction next door. A building had been knocked down and the site was being redeveloped. It looked pretty ugly. But as long as I didn’t point my camera in that direction, it wasn’t a problem for photos.

Did you go to Nezu Shrine’s 2023 Azalea festival? If you have, I’d love to hear your thoughts about it. In my opinion, it is one of the best flower events in Tokyo.
