AnimeJapan 2018
AnimeJapan 2018 at Tokyo Big Sight was a lot of fun. Any photographer who attended left with a lot of great photos. There were models (both real and plastic), robots, and dolls. The cosplayers, though, drew most of the attention.
It was a busy day. Everywhere was packed. The appearance of one company there surprised me. It was Netflix. Actually in hindsight, it shouldn’t have, as it streams video-on-demand and animation!
Space Battleship Yamato was there. Details covered the four-meter long warship. Of all the models at Animation Japan, it pulled me the most.
I spent most of my time with the cosplayers outside. They were fun. And they posed for the cameras for hours and hours. I appreciated their efforts. Most of them were girls. Only a few guys were a part of it. But, everyone was fun, engaged in conversation, and very accommodating to requests.
I wanted to ask the girls about their outfits. But with so many people waiting to take their photos, it was impossible. There were warriors, a sprinkling of schoolgirls, a few witches, and a couple of princesses. There was even one hybrid human/animal. They were all very, very cool.
AnimeJapan only happens once a year. This event is awesome for interacting with and photographing cosplayers. Do yourself a favor, and get your tickets to see them at Tokyo Big Sight next time. Leave questions and comments below.
