Caretta Shiodome Sky View for great Tokyo Bay views
Caretta Shiodome Sky View offers some good Tokyo Bay views. It is one of the best places to enjoy a good cityscape. Night there is amazing. Make sure you take a camera with you. There are a few small problems, though. Anyway, let’s look at it!
I have to say it’s not a real observatory. It is a small lounge-type area, a few windows wide, on a restaurant floor. A restaurant floor that is forty-six floors up, in the Dentsu building! Free viewing spots near Tokyo Bay don’t get better than this.
And it has one more bonus point. It has an excellent elevator! The ride up to the top is an exciting one. You get a panoramic view of Tokyo.
Caretta Shiodome Sky View points of interest
The viewing windows are about ten meters across and divided into three sections. They give about a 170° field of view. Some of great sights include:
- Hamarikyu Gardens
- Harumi passenger ship terminal (now closed)
- Kachidoki Bridge
- Odaiba (including the Hachitama observatory)
- Rainbow bridge
- Toyosu
- Tsukiji Outer Market
There is a downside, though. The windows only face Tokyo Bay. If you want to see the city center, enter a restaurant or bar that faces that direction. Or you can enjoy it from the elevator. The ride is short, but it is a good one when Tokyo lights up it’s amazing!
Photography Tips
- The windows get a lot of reflections, so carry a hood of some type if possible (they aren’t banned).
- You can use tripods! Just don’t block anyone’s view.
Other photo spots near Sky View
- Ginza (the shopping area)

- Hibiya Park (and then a short walk to the Imperial Palace)

Conclusion
Caretta Shiodome Sky View is excellent, but it could have been so much better if it had that 360⁰ view. Still, it is worth going to enjoy the sights it offers. And while you are there, you can also enjoy some great restaurants and bars. If you go in December, also know that Caretta Shiodome puts on a Christmas light show.
