Chidorigafuchi Park cherry blossoms in 2022

The Chidorigafuchi Park cherry blossoms are probably the most popular in Tokyo. It is always crowded during the hanami season. And due to that, I’ve had a love-hate relationship with it. Taking photos there can be hard due to the amount of people there. But, my feelings about it change every year. Anyway, I went there again in 2022 with my camera.

What photo gear did I use for this photo shoot?

Camera Body: Fujifilm X-T3

Lenses:

  • Fujifilm XF 16-55mm F2.8 R LM WR
  • Fujifilm XF 55-200mm f/3.5-4.8 R LM OIS

How was the Chidorigafuchi Park Cherry Blossoms in 2022 experience?

In 2022, I’d have to admit it was a pretty good experience. Yes, it was crowded, but not overly so. I had to wait to take photos a few times, but it wasn’t a problem that year.

That’s why I have a love-hate relationship with Chidorigafuchi. It’s a great place, but it can be so crowded. Cherry blossoms should be relaxed and peaceful. They are the antithesis of each. It’s about the trees though, isn’t it?

And they looked great. The cherry blossom trees were in good condition. I picked the right day to go. That made me very happy.

The icing on the cake was the weather. It was beautiful, much like what I experienced at Zojoji earlier in the day.  My luck was very good.

There were two things different from previous years.  One was the boats on the moat. Many of them were moored in the middle of the moat. I’m not sure of the logic here. Maybe it was a way to visitor numbers down as the pandemic hasn’t finished yet.

The other thing was my approach. Usually, I walk from Tokyo Station, as I drop by the palace. This time, I used Kudanshita Station which is on the opposite side. While walking up the hill, I noticed Tokyo Tower on the far side of the moat. That was a new photo experience for me.

The observation deck was open this year. It had been closed for 2021. So things were back to normal. There were so many people on it enjoying the view and taking photos.

I also popped over to Chidorigafuchi National Cemetery as it is over the road. Many visitors were there. The most I’ve ever seen.

Anyway, it was a good day at the Chidorigafuchi Park cherry blossoms. I hope you enjoy the photos. If you have any comments or questions, leave them below.
