Halloween 2016 in Shibuya

Halloween 2016 in Shibuya was Wow!!  That is all I can say, WOW!!  There were a lot of people at the famous crossing that night.  Talk about a “people overload experience” experience.  Some looked cute and sexy, and some looked downright scary.  Then there was everyone else.  There were some great costumes on the night.  I even saw a few guys wearing underwear on their heads!

I wasn’t going to go until a student mentioned it. It was the first time I heard about it. But it sounded good and I had my Ricoh GR II compact camera in my bag. I went.

When work finished, I quickly made my way to Shibuya.  And once out of the station, I was honestly shocked at the size of the crowd.  Never in my life had I seen so many people.

Considering how packed Shibuya was, it wasn’t out of control nor overly noisy.  It was mainly people walking around, looking at other people looking at them.  Everyone was looking at the famous crossing to see how many bodies could cram onto it until the lights changed back to green.  Near the Hachiko statue, a few people asked others to take photos together, but that was about it.

The whole event was nothing wild.  There was no crazy partying, which I guess is a good thing.  If I had to sum it up, I’d say it was like having quiet fun in a very crowded place. I honestly had no idea how big Halloween 2016 would be.

In retrospect, I wish I had had my DSLR with me.  It had far better low-light capability than the Ricoh GR II.  I can’t complain now. The best part of the night was everyone was friendly and accommodating with photo requests.

Halloween 2016 was my first time attending the event.   It wasn’t my thing when I was younger.  But now I’ve been many times and have become more interested in it.  There have been changes, but it is always a lot of fun.  And I’m still thinking about joining in!  When will I make the jump and find a good outfit?
