Halloween in Shibuya 2018
October 31, Halloween in Shibuya 2018! I went to the “prequel” the night before, but the main event was crazier than usual. There seemed to be more people around the station than in any other year. It was an enormous street party!
It was fun, with some people looking sexy and cute. Others were rather weird. And then there were the bizarre and downright scary! Of course, there was everything else in between. So many had put a lot of time and effort into their costumes.
What was my best photo? That was of two undead school girls. They were walking over a crossing when I spotted them. I only had time to raise the camera hit the shutter button before they were gone. One of the girls looked right at me as she and her friend walked by. The picture worked out very well.
And as with every other year, it was friendly. Some people whose pictures I took asked me to send them copies, which was nice. A few refused requests for photos, which was unusual in my experience. Still, the feeling on the streets was overwhelmingly pleasant.
To be honest, if there were one thing I could change about it, it would be crowd control. The streets were crowded. It was like a human sea with many people between the station, Hachiko, Shibuya Crossing, and Center Gai. I was surprised no one fell over and got crushed under all the feet. The plan that the police had to control the flow of people wasn’t the best.
But whatever people say about Halloween in Shibuya 2018, it was fun. And it is still one of the world’s most incredible street parties. No matter the year, they are all so good!
