Kameido Tenjin Wisteria Festival 2021

Kameido Tenjin Wisteria Festival 2021 was great. Why? Tokyo had exited its pandemic state of emergency! It was time for people to enjoy flower festivals again. I had been looking forward to this one for a long time. Another reason was that I got to see the flowers under a superb sunset.

Only a couple of days prior, I thought I wouldn’t go. I strongly felt I shouldn’t. Coronavirus was still around, and the number of cases wasn’t dropping. But I hadn’t got any good pics of the wisteria for several years. In the end, I went.  A foolish thing to do in hindsight? That is something I won’t deny.

I went late in the afternoon. There was some rationale for that. Usually, the flowers are lit after sunset for the festival. But, due to the pandemic, that didn’t happen in 2021. I figured few people would be there, which was what I wanted.

And I also guessed, in the late afternoon sun, the flowers would look their best. Around sunset, the grounds look superb. A soft afternoon light cast a lovely glow over everything. The wisteria looked terrific.

I almost got the perfect Kameido Tenjin Wisteria Festival 2021 photo. Tokyo Skytree soared above the flowers. It was a beautiful scene. The tower’s lights were on, but the shrine’s pool lights weren’t. It would have been perfect if both had been on at the same time. Of course, a few clouds would have been nice. Wishful thinking, I know. I’m sure it’ll happen one day.

Only a few people were there to enjoy Kameido Tenjin Wisteria Festival 2021’s sunset with me. And that was a good thing. Most times I go there it is so crowded. I guess this was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Conclusion

This festival is a must-see for shrine and flower lovers. I highly recommend it. Please read my main article about Kameido Tenjin for more information. It is one of the best smaller shrines in Tokyo. Leave questions and comments below.
