Kyu Shiba Rikyu Gardens cherry blossoms 2025

There’s a place in Tokyo where I haven’t photographed its cherry blossoms for six years. That’s a long time. Can you believe that? Well, I can’t get everywhere during the season. But I needed to do this one, Kyu Shiba Rikyu Gardens. It was way overdue. I wanted its special view.

Most of the trees nestle in the park’s south. They looked good when I visited. Many people came to see them. Were they in full bloom? Close. Give them a few more days and they’d be superb. But it’s spring and rain is the forecast.

The special view

Two other things bothered me that day. One was that special view. It was Tokyo Tower. You can see it from the park. Well, you used to see it. Much construction is happening on the west side of Kyu Shiba Rikyu Gardens. The new buildings form a wall.

I used to love that view of Tokyo Tower. Seeing it next to the World Trade Center (now demolished) was special. Many of these special spots are disappearing as new buildings go up. Yes, we need progress.

The south side has a sun problem. A large building sits next to the park. It casts a shadow over the cherry blossoms for a part of the day. That’s problematic. At least light moves, so photographing the trees is possible. Plan your visits accordingly.

Conclusion

The Kyu Shiba Rikyu Gardens cherry blossoms were great. The park had some problems. But it is in a city, after all. I’m satisfied. Enjoy the photos. By the way, a full article about the park is on the website, check it out. Leave questions and comments below.
