A photography camera bag: Lowepro Pro Trekker BP 350 AW II

As the amount of photography gear I take on shoots increases, I need a new bag. My old one can’t cope anymore. After doing much research, I found the  Lowepro Pro Trekker BP 350 II. It was what I wanted. I ordered it from Yodobashi Camera and had it by lunch the next day! That was a good start.

After getting it out of the box, I had a good look at it. It was big and looked like it could hold a lot! This one was an improvement over my last one. The first impression was premium. Yes, it made me happy.

Lowepro Pro Trekker BP 350 AW II features and performance

If you get into photography, your wallet soon empties. Cameras and lenses aren’t cheap. You need something in which to carry them and do it securely and safely.

The Lowepro Pro Trekker 350 AW II BP is large. If you are outdoors, it won’t be a problem. But, if you are in the city carrying it by the handles might be safer at times.

This backpack is for photographers. It allows you to carry a big body and up to five lenses. You can probably mix things up, though. It seems it could hold two bodies and fewer lenses. But “big” needs to be defined. For example, once I put my Fujifilm XF 100-400 mm in, a lot of bag space disappeared.

The Lowepro Pro Trekker BP 350 AW II uses a padded velcro divider system, which I appreciate.  It gives a generous amount of space when you open the main section.  There are places to put a computer, tablet, cables, and more.  Its divider-based system gives you many options on how you want to carry your stuff.

Depending on your photographic needs, you’ll find a fair amount of room for long and short lenses. And there is space for whatever else you need. Lowepro created a quality product. I’m sure any purchaser would be happy with it.

The 350 AW II weighs around two kilograms. That isn’t exactly light. But it comes with a fair amount of padding, which is good. Camera gear needs protection.

The bag has straps, handles, and a belt to keep it secure on your body. On top of that is a relatively rigid set of bones that make up the frame, helping it keep its shape. This backpack should be able to protect your gear.

There are dividers to make the spaces and a tiny zip-up pocket for cables and spare batteries at the bottom. It comes with a handle in case the section is hard to pull out. You could also leave it out entirely if you don’t need it.

The Lowepro Pro Trekker BP 350 AW II has space for a laptop, but I don’t have one. Therefore I can’t make any comment. But, from what I’ve read, some older computers might find the fit a little snug. You might want to update to something newer and thinner in that case.

How does the Pro Trekker 350 AW II feel on the back?

I thought it felt great. There are thick straps with a padded waist belt to disperse the weight. I haven’t experienced any problems.

Lowepro Pro Trekker BP 350 AW II specifications

  • Weight:  2.39 kg
  • External Dimensions:  32 x 25 x 48 cm
  • Internal Dimensions:  28 x 15 x 42 cm
  • Total Volume:  24 L
  • Laptop Compartment Dimensions:  28 x 2.5 x 32 cm

How could the bag be improved?

  • An all-weather cover comes with the bag. I’m not exactly sure how long it could keep your gear safe in heavy rain, though;
  • Do you like black? I hope so because that is the only color for the Lowepro Pro Trekker BP 350 AW II.
  • If you own extra-large lenses like the Fujifilm XF 100-400 mm, it will limit your ability to carry others.
  • It doesn’t come with a wrap-around strap to secure the bag. It only has zippers. If you fail to check them, something terrible might happen if the flap opens unexpectedly.
  • There is no place for a tripod. If you check the internet, you’ll find ways to attach one.
