Shibuya Halloween 2022: The main event
Shibuya Halloween 2022 was pretty good. It probably wasn’t as good as a few years prior. We’ll still call it a success. It got a pass mark. I wanted more but finished the night with some decent photos. In the end, I was happy but left wanting something more. Let’s look at it.
So I gave the event a pass mark? Yep, that’s it. It was okay. What was wrong with you might ask? Well, I got the feeling that there weren’t as many people in costume as in previous years. Their numbers seemed down.
But it was crowded of course. Shibuya Halloween 2022 might have set a new record for attendance. We’ll have to see what the newspapers say. Most people seemed to be there to look. They wanted to see the spectacle.
Still, what I saw was pretty impressive. Elvis was there as was Boba Fett. I also caught up with Jason from Friday the 13th. There were a few more other faces I had seen from previous years. It was good to see them.
I walked through Centa-Gai a couple of times, but the police were quick to move along those blocking the path. In light of the recent tragic event in South Korea, it was probably for the best. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
As for the photography, Shibuya Halloween 2022 was hard. Great costumes attracted crowds. People wanted to take photos with the cosplayers.
I only wanted the cosplayers, if possible. But they couldn’t stay around just for me. If they decided to move on, I lost my chance. Such is life! Speed is key at events like this.
Be fast if you go to this type of event specifically for photos. People can move quickly and you’ll lose chances if you hesitate. Always have your camera ready.

Conclusion
I got decent photos at Shibuya Halloween 2022. Once again, I had hoped for more. More people should have there in costume. That didn’t happen. I can only guess why that didn’t happen.
If you were and have a theory about this, let me know. And if you think my thoughts about the night are way off the mark, let me know that too.
