A brief history of Yurakucho
It dates back to the Edo period. At that time, it was an important transportation hub that connected the city to other parts of Japan. The area had warehouses and merchants who traded goods and commodities. It has continued to develop over the years. Now it is a popular destination for entertainment and leisure.
Eating and drinking
One of the area’s main draws is its food and drink scene. There are many izakayas, Japanese pubs which serve small plates of food and drinks. It is also home to restaurants and bars that offer a diverse range of cuisine and cocktails.
One of the most famous restaurants in the area is the Yakitori Alley, a narrow street lined with small restaurants that serve yakitori (of course!). Many local business people go there after work. These days everyone goes. It’s a place foreign tourists want to see.
Shopping
The area is great for shopping. It has department stores, boutiques, and specialty shops. Two of the most are the Marui and Bic Camera.
